About Us
Clendining Farms has been around since 1900 and is currently
run by John and Joanne Clendining. “Farmer John” is a fourth
generation farmer and is well known for his sweet, juicy,
mouthwatering peaches, which have won numerous awards
including Best of Show at the New Jersey Peach Festival.
John has a variety of peach named after him. He noticed
one day while picking a variety named Loring, that the
peaches on one limb were highly colored and looked very
different than those on the rest of the tree. He continued
to watch them and after a week noticed that they had amazing
color and looked like they should have been soft, but they
weren’t! He couldn’t believe it! They had new trees made by
taking buds from that small branch….and the rest is
history…the “John Boy” peach was born! Today, this
delicious, gorgeous peach can be found all over the United
States.
Joanne, born and raised
in the suburbs of northern New Jersey (a completely
different state than southern NJ) married into the farming
business. Having no previous experience, (not even a
garden!) Joanne has become an integral part of the farm,
heading the marketing side and teaming with John to do
nearly all the farm work themselves. When not in the fields,
you can often find Joanne singing in some of the local
